What is the story of your life? There are the facts of your life and the story you tell around those facts. In Aging Well, Vaillant speaks of Integrity. He states "In old age there are many losses and these may overwhelm us if we have not continued to grow beyond ourselves." This growing beyond ourselves also means looking back on life and creating a story--an integrated and meaningful life that could have been no other way. It is a deep and profound acceptance of life's journey, including the journey into death. For this reader, the stage of Integrity has less to do with making a difference in the world, and more to do with finding inner peace with all the experiences of life and the world.

Will you age well? Do you have inner peace with the experience of life and the world? Can you create a story that, as it moves along, suggests more and more that life could not have been any other way but the way that it has been with all the goodness and sadness, the ups and the downs. For we would not be who we are today without having all, and I mean ALL, the experiences we have had. So what is your story?

Who will you share your story with? When we share our story, we leave an imprint on the listener. We give them a seed of who we are. We plant part of our legacy with those that listen to our story. We share with them what is most important to us, what challenges we faced and how we overcame our struggles and embraced our opportunities.

Not yet happy with your story? While the facts of your life may stay the same, the story you tell about them can change dramatically. What perspective do you want to take on your story? You are the author. You choose. Consider it a historical biography. The facts are all there. The material arranges and rearranges before you. What strings will you tie together? How do you organize all this wonderful content into a meaningful journey? How will you weave the story? What threads will you pick up, which threads will you release?

The journey is not yet over. The journey continues. And each day you collect material for the story. What do you want to collect? Who will play a pivotal role in your story? Where do you want the story to lead? How will the story be told? When are the critical moments in the story?

What is your journey? How will you share it with others? What story do you offer? What story are you telling yourself? Is that the story you want to follow? Look into the future from now assuming your story continues along your current path? Does that story please you? Can you see other paths? Which one reaches out from your future to you now?

Tell your story. Remake your story. Tell your story again.
